Ho, Ho, Home: How To Entertain Your Kids During The Holidays
By DAMIAN LEVY
T’was the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, except for hyperactive children looking for something to do with exhausted parents.
Christmas is a jolly time, but for parents, preparing for the holiday season can be pretty stressful. Especially with the kids being out of school. You might still be stuck at work, but they’re finally free of the classroom and ready to bounce off the walls for the season. With that in mind, here are some ways to keep them occupied and entertained for the holidays.
Movie Marathon
Coming up with ideas for what to do with your children can be tough, and sometimes, you just want something to keep them occupied for at least an hour or two. Luckily for you, there are countless holiday movies designed for just that purpose. Throw on an old favourite of theirs, or show them something they’ve never seen before. It’s a great bonding experience for the whole family.
In the Parent’s Little Helpers
If your child has a sweet tooth, they’re probably looking forward to treats from Santa when he comes to visit. Since you’ve already got so much on your plate, why not let them help in the kitchen? Children love making Christmas cookies of various shapes and sizes. You can even teach them how to make Jamaican Christmas traditions like sorrel or fruitcake.
D-I-Y Decorations
The song doesn’t say deck the halls just to be cute. Children love decorations and they especially love getting involved with creating. You can make special decorations out of paper, seeds, beads, or any material you can think of. A good supply of paint, glue, cartridge paper, and glitter will give your child more than enough options to create memories that will last a lifetime. You can even make ornaments that will delight them each year they put it on the tree.
